St Philip is the most easterly of Barbados’ eleven parishes, and is tucked away from the well-worn tourist trail. Golden Grove is less than a mile away from the coast and the breathtaking views of the Lighthouse at Ragged Point. The area remains unspoilt by commercialisation and house guests can really experience the local flavour of Barbados. There is no shortage of fantastic beaches in the area - one of the nearest being the famous Bottom Bay. Only a few minutes further away by car is the Crane Hotel and beach, popular both with swimmers and those in search of an early evening cocktail! Although some south-east beaches are better suited to the stronger swimmer, the breath-taking combination of surf and sand can be enjoyed by all. Bath beach, ten minutes North of Golden Grove, is safe for swimmers of all abilities.

Although secluded peace and quiet can be taken for granted at Golden Grove, Six Roads is only ten minutes away by car, where there is a shopping complex including supermarket, Post Office, banks with 24hr ATMs, doctor’s surgery, pharmacy and video rental. History lovers can also enjoy a visit to nearby historic Sunbury Plantation House, an exploration of the island’s colonial past. The island’s capital, Bridgetown is only half an hour away by car, and the airport and the nightlife of St Lawrence Gap can be reached in a little over 20 minutes. Recent house guests have compared St Philip to ‘County Cork in a heat wave’ and it’s laid-back, friendly, countryside location is the perfect base for discovering Barbados. |
